Bonjour! My cell phone thinks we are in Canada and has switched us to Atlantic time already! We are actually in Eastport, Maine which claims to be the easternmost city in the US.
We headed north on the 13th and made our way to Portsmouth, New Hampshire where we spent the night. While there we caught up with a family who had just moved there from the Little Silver area. They are part of the Embury United Methodist Church where Drew works. We had a great dinner, and an even greater time catching up with them.
The next morning we continued the journey north to Eastport. We are now settled in for the next several days at a beautiful Bed and Breakfast that overlooks the Passamaquoddy Bay. From the window of our room we can watch sunrise over the bay–which is early, given that we are at the edge of the Eastern time zone!!
While here we plan to take a whale watching cruise, visit the Ocean Renewable Power Company (ORPC), do some hiking, and visit the Bay of Fundy in New Brunswick, Canada. ORCP is overseeing the first commercial pilot project in North America that converts tidal power into electricity for the power grid. Currently the project is providing enough power for 25 homes. We’ll let you know what we learn from our visit!
For now it is off to wander the town of Eastport until whale watching time…
